IMAGE OF THE MONTH (13) September 2010
We travel to San Francisco for our latest featured photographer.

A warm welcome to Dominic Martello.

"Taking pictures was the farthest thing from my mind until 2007 when I saw a Jeff Wall photo exhibit. I bought a camera, one notch up from an instamatic and enjoyed it for several months. In early 2008 a congenital defect brought on a stroke and in mid-year I had brain surgery. Shortly after and unrelated to the stroke I lost my sense of smell and taste. But afterward, somehow, I seemed to see the world with a new set of eyes. I've bought 2 DSLRs since and I am self-trained.

I'm particularly drawn to black and white images. Many of my images are pared down resembling etchings. My partner was an artist and claimed 'simple but elegant' as the mantra for his work and that is what I hope my photos reflect".
