Who Are These Men? - In Their Own Words
 | Ian "The Ref" Brash
"I'm the one you can't compartmentalise and am as much at home taking
landscapes as I am dabbling into the world of nature photography. I suppose I'm mostly known for making use of what the world
of Photoshop has to offer and 'putting together' that eye-catching image; it's probably within this application that I've had
most of my success within club photography. |
I use a Canon 300D still, coupled with Sigma 70-300 and 18-125 lenses and
occasionally I hump around my Benbo tripod although I tend to use a smaller set for the sake of my health.
I have recently discovered the benefits of working in RAW, and combined with my Epson 1290 get very satisfactory results
with my prints without all those fancy profiles that are available.
In my spare time, when I have any, I go out on the road judging at local camera clubs or giving presentations of my work.
I hope you enjoy viewing our website and the panels I've got on display, depicting the variety of subjects I make images from.
Maybe they will inspire you to become that little bit more creative in your own photography".

"I never cease to be fascinated by photography's capacity to excite,
stimulate, create mood, capture natural beauty and illuminate different aspects of life around us.
My interests are broad but I particularly enjoy images that locate people within their environment, sometimes as small but
significant elements, or reflect some of the contradictions and tensions within society. My psychological training also makes
me interested in how we choose and respond to pictures on a personal level. |
Most of my earlier print work was monochrome, encouraged by an early (and expensive) falling out with cibachrome. Fortunately
this has now been put right by the digital revolution and I am revelling in the colour world with the best of them.
I have also been on the judging circuit for a number of years and value the opportunity to view immensely varied images and
offer comments that (hopefully) add something to the process".

"The digital age is upon us and I for one am glad, before it arrived I worked in B/W only, my darkroom was in the loft
and boy did I suffer in the summer, not any more though, I can now work in comfort.
Lately my work has taken another direction, that of altered reality and digital painting where I can get quite carried away.
I enjoy walking which I combine with my love of photography, one of my favourite places being the Western Isles where I can also indulge in my other love, fine Malt Whisky.
I have a Canon 350d soon to be replaced for the Eos 7d, I also have the Ixus 850is which I take everywhere". |
